This is "Dr. Bob's" page, My Step Father. A wonderful man and a great surgeon, he was also one of the founder's of our local Medical Group. His "passing away" truly diminished all our lives, and he is missed terribly. "Ask not for whom the bell tolls, it tolls for thee".
Robert W. Unangst MD attended Dartmouth and NYU Medical School. He then went to practice in Huntington, NY and was one of the founders of The Huntington Medical Group. He was Chief of Surgery at Huntington Hospital and an Associate Professor at The State University of NY at Stony Brook. Dr. Bob served in the US Navy as a Medical Officer aboard the USS Higbee in World War II. He was a "plank holder" (a member of the original commissioning crew) and was aboard the Higbee at Iwo Jima. After the war he returned to Huntington, NY.
